Vehicles for Change Celebration

Vehicles for Change Celebration

On May 4, 2012, Building Bridges Across the River (BBAR) at THEARC along with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), William C. Smith + Company, and Vehicles for Change held a program to honor local individuals who received vehicles through a grant BBAR received from LISC to acquire and distribute the vehicles from Vehicles for Change.  Key leaders including Vance Page from William C. Smith + Company, Oramenta Newsome from LISC, Edmund Fleet from BBAR, and Steve Sullivan from Vehicles for Change spoke on the importance of vehicle ownership even with alternative transportation available in the city.  Recipients also shared what car ownership has done for them which ranged from being able to put their kids in after-school programs to traveling cross country for the first time.  The event concluded with a special performance from SE’s-own dance group, Beat Ya Feet Kings, who were featured on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.  Though one of their group members was also a lucky recipient of a car through this program, an announcement was made that a van would be donated for the use of the entire group.
