The Transfer Sparks Inter-generational Dialogue at THEARC

On Monday May 11,  2015 at THEARC Theater, nearly 200 guests witnessed The Transfer, a scial impact speaker series tv pilot set to anchor the Kennedy Center's "Harlem Nights, U Street Lights" Black Broadway Celebration with the Apollo Theater. The celebration recognizes the era of Black Broadway, its impact on culture, theater and music through the music of jazz luminaries that include the legendary Jimmy Cobb, Roy Hargrove, Jason Moran, Marc Cary and more. The Transfer is a celebrity moderated, speaker series created to expose youth to an inter-generational dialogue between artistic trailblazers about society and culture. The ultimate aim of The Transfer pilot was to share knowledge across generations while expanding the opportunity horizon for children and teens as they seek to forge pathways to success in the creative economy.  Building Bridges across the River (BBAR), The Town Hall Education, Arts and Recreation Center (THEARC) served as the lead community host.  Students from the Washington School for Girls, Levine Music, The Washington Ballet and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington's FBR Branch at THEARC and I CAN at THEARC Theater technical interns participated in the event.

Children, teens and adults enjoyed performances by The Washington Ballet, The Chuck Brown Tribute Band and Christylez Bacon. The pilot followed an innovated talk show format incorporating live interviews with a mobile-app assisted Q&A and audience polls.

The series, features a scope of discussion a diverse range of legendary cultural arts icons, nationally recognized Generation X influencers,  plus emerging Millennial taste-makers. The project was created with  the help of Andre Robinson, long time Managing Producer for Harry Belafonte Enterprises and Carbon Fiber Productions.
