THEARC Theater presents...Black History Month
THEARC Theater is home to over 300 events each year including graduation ceremonies, round-table discussions forums, plays and productions directed by THEARC's partner organizations. As a part of THEARC's mission to serve the community with affordable, high quality arts entertainment, THEARC Theater provides annual programming under the leadership of Building Bridges Across the River, the managing organization of THEARC!
During February, audiences can anticipate fantastic dance, music and dramatic performances highlighting important moments, movements and experiences relating to African American history and culture.
Shows will span February 3, 2015 through February 28. 2015.
Harambee! - February 3, 2015 at 10:30 AM -SOLD OUT-
Harambee! - a dance production featuring Taratibu Youth Association powered by I CAN Technical Theater Interns. Taratibu Youth Association comes together with the Bokamoso Youth Center, from Winterveld South Africa, the Jones & Haywood Dance School, Visions Contemporary Dance Ensemble and the Farafina Kan Drummers to present a captivating and exciting experience of Black History and Culture.

Black Broadway on U - February 5, 2015 at 10:30 AM and 1PM
The Black Broadway On U: Transmedia Project sheds light on the under-told story of African American life within Washington, D.C.’s U Street and Shaw community corridors once known as “Black Broadway.” The Black Broadway era (early 1910s to late 1950s) was D.C.’s cultural renaissance before, during and after the Harlem Renaissance. The project will connect today’s audiences with the historical and hidden contributions of this African American community’s iconic entertainers, educators, activists, intellectuals, musicians, culturalists and society, as well as their impact on Black America and U.S. History.

TRUTH the Musical - February 26-28, 2015
THEARC Theater presents...Black History Month @ THEARC featuring TRUTH the Musical, an original production and collaboration with Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington and Keni Fine Productions.
When a troubled urban teen with a thirst for meaning gets himself in trouble, an unlikely champion from the the past appears to show him a way out. Sparks fly as Sojourner Truth takes Peter ona journey back through time, into her amazing life story, her world and its people. As Peter opens his eyes to scenes and songs from Sojourners life, part of his own history, he discovers who he really is and how good it feels and sounds to finally speak the TRUTH! Sponsored by WC Smith, THEARC Theater, BGCGW, DCCAH, I CAN Technical Theater program, and Keni Fine Productions.
