THEARC "Goes Blue" in Observation of Autism Awareness Month

The National Capital Area Chapter of Autism Speaks is proud to partner with Ward 8 Councilmember LaRuby May to light THEARC's tower blue starting April 2, 2016 on World Autism Awareness Day.  While lighting ceremonies are happening worldwide—from Sydney, Australia to Rio DeJaneiro, Brazil—Autism Speaks has chosen THEARC in Ward 8 to help bring about greater understanding of this growing global health issue. National Autism Awareness Month represents an excellent opportunity to promote autism awareness, autism acceptance and to draw attention to the tens of thousands facing an autism diagnosis each year.

On this special night individuals and families received valuable information regarding autism education and early screening resources.Guests enjoyed blue ice cream, music, and a drumline performance from Malcolm X Elementary School. Councilmember May gave the keynote address at the event before she flipping the switch!

THEARC’s glass tower will look beautiful in blue throughout the month of April but it will also serve as a powerful reminder of the need for autism awareness and increased services in all of our communities.
