Mobile Porch Tour Makes Stops Along the Anacostia River

BBAR's non-resident partner, Double Nickels Theatre Company, was established as a reminiscence theatre to celebrate the lives of seniors while they can still hear their applause. It is through gathering these stories from the elders that we are able to research, dramatize, record and preserve the rich culture and history that is to be found in our communities.

The manifestation of this rich heritage of American culture is exemplified by the Front Porch or front steps that graced most American homes. The Front Porch was the place where our American culture was initially shared with our neighbors. Double Nickels' Mobile Porch is a hand-crafted moving platform designed to resemble a cozy front stoop. It was created to share heritage and culture across neighborhoods. The Mobile Porch is a place where stories are told & communities are celebrated!

The Mobile Porch made its Spring 2017 debut at the Anacostia River Festival on Sunday, April 9, 2017. The event closed out the National Cherry Blossom Festival and was attended by nearly 10,000 participants.

On Saturday, May 6th, Double Nickels Theatre Company will share the Mobile Porch with the community at the 2nd Annual Rotary Club of DC Duck Race on Saturday, May 6, 2017. The DC Duck Race is a fun festival bringing the community together in support of local non-profits and organizations.Members of the community will be able to sponsor numbered, floating toy ducks that will participate in a race on a contained course along the Anacostia River, with funds supporting the Rotary Club of DC and community organizations. In addition to prizes for the winning ducks, participants can enjoy music and other entertainment, food, artists, activities and much more!
