"Dancing Grandma" Virginia McLurin Celebrates 107th Birthday at THEARC

On Friday, March 11th, United Planning Organization and WHUR held a special birthday celebration for America's favorite dancing grandma - Virginia McLurin! The world fell in love with her after she danced with President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House ealier in the year. A special program in THEARC Theater and luncheon in the Boys & Girls Club gymnasium welcomed 300 guests and was hosted by WHUR-FM’s Tony Richards, Mo Ivory, and George Willborn.

McLaurin is a loved community resident, and has volunteered with UPO's Foster Grandparent Program for over 20 years.  Howard University Radio and Bob’s Discount Furniture gifted McLaurin with a $5,000 home makeover. She was also given a special gift from President Obama himself–a Presidential Medal of Honor for her community service.
