This spring, students from the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design’s Masters of Arts in New Media Photojournalism program, a pioneering academic program for visual journalists launched the Fall 2011, will present a diverse selection of work by 25 graduate students.  The two-year degree program is the first of its kind in an art institution and emphasizes the individual as a visual reporter and encourages experimentation with new ways of storytelling, documentation, and editing.

THEARC is happy to be one of the locations for the 5x5 project!  Habitat For Artists will build a small, temporary, 6 by 6 foot art studio on our grounds made from recycled and reclaimed materials to engage our local artists and youth groups to take an active role in participating both inside and outside of the habitat.

The DC Jazz Festival and THEARC present a master class with renowned jazz vocalist René Marie.  For music students and music appreciation students, this 90-minute session will explore the significant contribution of jazz vocalists in American history and culture.  Jazz, our country's singular original art form, originated and was developed in the United States, and the overwhelming majority of the world's most outstanding jazz artists continue to be from the United States.  Yet many students are unaware of the significance of jazz and its many iconic figures including Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Nancy Wilson, and more.
